Plagiarism Detection
SafeAssign and Turnitin are functions in Blackboard Learn Original and they compare submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works. They also search the internet for plagiarism however, it is not 100% accurate, for instance, they cannot search websites behind logins.
Additionally, Turnitin also verifies if Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used while creating an assignment.
Faculty have the option to use either of these applications in assignments for review of plagiarism and they can also turn them on for students, so students can see if they are plagiarizing.
SafeAssign
SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention tool that allows instructors to check the originality of a submitted assignments. SafeAssign prevents plagiarism by promoting originality and creating opportunities to help students identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase. SafeAssign is effective as both a deterrent and an educational tool.
SafeAssign automatically conducts the check by comparing an assignment against multiple sources and databases of other assignment submissions to identify areas of overlap between student work and existing publications.
